Chris Anderson has posted a very penetrating, yet concise, analysis of the Senate deal. There's an extended and often fascinating discussion by dailyKossacks. I've looked at the other diaries. Anderson's seems to be the most focused.
Anderson sees the compromise as a very big win for the Democrats, even though it concedes the confirmation of at least three disreputable judges. I have no real opinions on the matter. I do think it's significant that Dobson and friends are raving, howling and barking like rabid dogs, and that Reid was happy, while Frist was forlorn.
Summing up: a crack has appeared in the supposedly monolithic Republican discipline machine. How big (or significant) a crack it might be remains to be seen.
Anderson's own blog is here.
